An Adoption Puzzle Fundraiser for Families

posted on March 9, 2021

This month, we want to discuss creative fundraising for adoptions. One family we’re featuring later this month, the LeMay family, is in the process of adopting a little boy from China. And through them and others, we learned about this fun idea we want to share. The LeMay family completed their adoption puzzle fundraiser before they started their shoe drive fundraiser with us. But you don’t have to, as we’ll explain later.

As many adoptive families soon discover, it’s not cheap to adopt a child. And that’s why so many families turn to do creative fundraisers, such as shoe drive fundraisers. But, this post isn’t about that unique fundraising solution; it’s about an adoption puzzle fundraiser. We love the idea and thought we would share it!

What’s an Adoption Puzzle Fundraiser?

Recently, we gave our writing team a challenge and asked them to write about an adoption puzzle fundraiser. Want to know what we got from them? Blank stares with a bit of blinking tossed in for good measure. You see, our fundraising team and fearless marketing leaders have heard from adoptive families for a long while about a cool way to raise funds and tell a compelling story. That’s why we asked our writing team to get up to speed and quickly get us a post about an adoption puzzle fundraiser.

So, what’s this creative way to raise funds, and why is it so special? In short, an adoption puzzle fundraiser is full of simplicity. All adoptive families need is to get a puzzle. Then, they share their fundraiser with their families, friends, and even the broader community. So, you could do what the LeMay family did and share their journey through their blog. As we know, getting people to support your adoption cause means you have to share your story. Inevitably, people want to be a part of the journey and help in your fundraiser. And that’s why an adoption puzzle fundraiser is brilliant.

Through marketing and promoting the adoption puzzle fundraiser, an adoptive family asks people to sponsor a piece in the puzzle. This contribution happens with a donation. For every gift to the adoption fundraiser, the donor’s name gets written on the back of a puzzle piece, which becomes a keepsake. In the process, a narrative gets created for the family to share with their adopted child in the years to come. When every supporter’s name gets included, each puzzle piece represents a part of the families’ total picture journey to be together. Imagine years later as adoptive children spend time looking at the names of all the people who made their loving home a reality.

How Does it Work for Adoptive Families?

This adoption fundraiser is only limited by your mind, and it goes well with a shoe drive fundraiser. We’ll explain that in a bit. In the meantime, to get started, all you have to do is to get yourself a puzzle. One of the best ways you could share a visual image of your togetherness is to have the puzzle be a family picture, which you could get on Shutterfly. You could also get a custom puzzle from Create Jigsaw Puzzles and Puzzles Print.

Once you receive your custom puzzle, you’re good to go. Meaning, all you have to do is to tell everyone about it. For instance, you could create a Facebook page where you share adoption updates and your fundraisers. For your adoption puzzle fundraiser, you ask for contributions for people to sponsor a piece of the puzzle. Sure, you could ask people to make a financial contribution of $20 or $50 if you make it a stand-alone fundraiser. But, you could also get a little more creative and combine it with a shoe drive fundraiser. In that case, people would give you a bag filled with 25 pairs of gently worn, used and new shoes.

As people contribute to your adoption fundraiser, you then take pictures of yourself (and your family) and the puzzle piece. The puzzle piece they sponsored should have their name on it. And then, of course, you thank them on social media, in blog updates, and in other ways that express your thanks for their support. Once you found sponsors for your adoption fundraiser, you could then frame your puzzle and make sure everyone hears the news!
